Skógafoss waterfall is one of the most beautiful sights in all of south Iceland. As you drive along road 1 towards Vík, you will catch your first glimpse of this impressive waterfall. Originating in the highland river Skógaá, Skógafoss is massive in size at 60 meters high (197 feet) and 25 meters wide (82 feet). This waterfall is truly stunning and often wreathed in a glorious rainbow. Visitors can even walk up the steep staircase on the right side of the falls to get a glimpse of the water from above.
Just minutes from Skógafoss waterfall is one of the best folk museums in Iceland. Skógar Museum has a collection of over 6000 artifacts and examples of various types of dwellings in Iceland since the earliest times. The collection of tools and equipment is one of the best in Iceland. The museum also has an old turf farmhouse, so that guests can experience how Icelanders lived in the past.
