Oddi church is a major historical site located nearby the Rangá River. In fact, there has been a church and farm in this location since the mid 11th century. Sæmundur the Learned – a famous Icelandic personage – grew up on Oddi farm. He was a noted scholar who studied at the Black School in Paris and was perhaps one of the first Icelandic historians. Snorri Sturluson is another notable Icelandic poet, historian and policitian who hailed from Oddi. The current Oddi church was erected in 1924 and was recently restored.
